MSU Alumnus Paints New Eagle Print

From The Trail Blazer:

A new print of the MSU Eagle will be unveiled this weekend during homecoming activities.

The print will be unveiled in a special ceremony Oct. 20, during the Athletic Hall of Fame banquet beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Crager Room in ADUC.

The new print, which features a pair of eagles against the backdrop of Eagle Lake, was painted by MSU alumnus John Ward of Mt. Sterling.

Bill Redwine, director of Auxiliary Services, said the previous eagle print was painted 25 years ago by artist Ray Harm, but has been out of circulation for the past four or five years.

"The print was so popular President Eaglin and his cabinet decided to commission a new one," Redwine said.

"Most universities have an official print that is given out as a special award or sold for scholarship fundraising," Redwine said.

"It's nice for the alumni to have sort of a recognition piece for the university," he said.

Ward said "It's a real honor to be selected by the university to do this print. I really feel like I'm following in the footsteps of the naturalist artist who did the previous print," he said.

John Ward will sign prints on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the University Bookstore.
